New Nightline Consumer Innovations Scoops Irish Logistics Award
An initiative to allow Ireland’s online shoppers more say in how purchases are delivered has scooped a major logistics industry award.
The launch of Parcel Pilot saw Nightline, Ireland’s biggest independent delivery firm, triumph in the Client and Supplier Achievement category at the Irish Logistics and Transport Awards ceremony in Dublin. Parcel Pilot enables consumers to have more say in the critical final mile of the delivery process and helps reduce the financial and environmental costs associated with failed first-time deliveries.
Nightline only introduced the system last month but Group CEO John Tuohy said its early award success had been mirrored by the enthusiasm with which it had been greeted by the e-commerce sector. “The interest in and adoption of Parcel Pilot by shoppers and retailers has been nothing short of fantastic. They understand the impact which it has in helping to tackle obstacles that can occur in the final part of the e-commerce process and lead to consumer not getting goods at the first time of asking. This recognition by Ireland’s logisitics industry also makes clear how Parcel Pilot’s merits are fully grasped by those of us who are doing our bit to support individuals who increasingly rely on internet retail and those retailers who are looking to grow their business.”
Although more than a year in development, Parcel Pilot was only announced by Nightline last month. The result of a €1 million investment by the Nightline Group and a collaboration with the Irish software agency Xpreso, it provides up to the minute information about when deliveries are due and enables consumers to interact with couriers and even redirect parcels if circumstances change on the day of receipt.
Parcel Pilot also allows shoppers free access to Nightline’s hugely successful Parcel Motel network of secure locker terminals. The system also stores individual consumer’s delivery preferences to make future shipments even easier. The ILTA award is the latest title to be claimed by Nightline and, according to Mr Tuohy, caps another remarkable year of success.
“We have seen yet more remarkable growth in terms of the business which we handle and the infrastructure which we have put in place to deal with it but we are certainly not resting on our laurels. We are constantly looking for ways to further develop what we do and how we do it. That has been demonstrated in the new systems which we have unveiled already this year.”
